ISD is building a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for a Netherlands-based company specializing in the refurbishment of lithium-ion batteries. The system we are developing is the operational backbone of a modern factory — orchestrating processes, tracking data, and ensuring quality across every step of production.
What makes this project unique is the deep integration between software and physical hardware. Our platform communicates with real-world devices such as scanners, label printers, cameras, scales, infrared cameras, voltmeters, and other industrial equipment. Quality here is not theoretical — it directly impacts factory operations, safety, and efficiency.
You’ll be joining the project at a formative stage, where core quality practices are still being defined. This is a chance to shape how quality is built into the system from day one.
The Role
We are looking for a Middle+ QA Engineer with a strong automation background in .NET environments who will take full ownership of quality on the project. This is not a “follow-the-checklist” role — it’s a strategic, engineering-driven QA position with a high degree of autonomy.
You will define what should be tested, when testing should happen, and how it should be done. You’ll collaborate closely with developers and product stakeholders, helping ensure that quality is built into the development lifecycle rather than inspected in at the end.
Your Responsibilities Include
- Owning and evolving the overall quality and testing strategy for a complex, hardware-integrated system
- Defining what to test, when to test, and how to test
- Designing and maintaining high-quality test documentation (test plans, test cases, and quality criteria)
- Leading test automation efforts, focusing on high-value areas such as APIs, critical workflows, and core user journeys
- Making strategic decisions on automation vs. manual testing, balancing speed, coverage, and maintainability
- Establishing and maintaining testing processes suitable for a startup-style environment
- Designing approaches for testing software–hardware integrations with industrial devices
- Selecting, implementing, and maintaining automation tools and frameworks aligned with a .NET ecosystem
- Collaborating closely with developers to improve testability, architecture, and system reliability
- Acting as a quality authority on the project — proactively identifying risks and driving improvements
- Continuously refining tools, practices, and standards as the system scales
What do we expect from You
Must-have qualities
- Strong ownership mentality — you are comfortable being the final voice on quality decisions
- Engineering-driven approach to QA, with a deep understanding of system behavior and failure modes
- High attention to detail, especially in complex and non-standard scenarios
- Critical and independent thinking — you challenge inefficient processes constructively
- Confidence working with incomplete requirements and evolving systems
Experience & skills
- Middle to Senior-level experience in QA engineering, including test strategy definition and execution
- Proven experience with test automation, including designing or owning automation frameworks
- Strong experience testing APIs and distributed systems
- Ability to evaluate, select, and introduce testing tools and frameworks appropriate for a .NET ecosystem
- Experience collaborating closely with software engineers on architecture and quality improvements
Nice to have
- Experience with hardware-integrated systems, manufacturing software, or IoT environments
- Background in industrial, safety-critical, or mission-critical systems
- Experience mentoring other QA engineers or influencing quality practices across teams
What We Offer
- Hybrid setup with flexible working hours
- Private health insurance
- Sports compensation (gym memberships or online sports subscriptions)
- Education budget for courses, certifications, training, conferences, and gadgets
- Books budget
- 5pm Club – a weekly one-hour self-development session
