Scope of Work

The Front-end GIS Developer will contribute to the following tasks:

Design, build, and deploy web-based geospatial applications using JavaScript libraries and frameworks;
Support development of custom applications, reports, and other data visualization products to help clients improve their decision-making;
Incorporating interactive maps and other geospatial visualization/analysis technologies into existing systems, as well as creating new data visualization and geospatial interfaces;
Recommend approaches to tackle a diverse set of end user needs through the integration of interactive maps and GIS-based capabilities into web interfaces;
Support development of custom widgets and data visualization techniques to support policy makers and other stakeholders make informed decisions;
Support strategic thinking and processes related to infrastructure, web mapping platforms, and software development and deployment.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum Academic Education:

Master’s degree or equivalent in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or Scientific Disciplines;
Bachelor’s degree with additional two years of of experience may be taken into consideration in lieu of Master’s degree.

Minimum years of relevant Work experience:

Minimum 3 years relevant experience in front-end application development, particularly for geospatial systems, or relevant experience.

Required skills and competencies:

Experience building and customizing applications in CSS, HTML, JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks mapping libraries;
Proven experience (deployed projects, Github code) with designing and developing production ready scalable geospatial web applications with open-source industry standard technologies such as Node.js, React, Mapbox GL, Leaflet, Carto, python;
Sound knowledge of SQL and PostGIS spatial database;
Experience working with geospatial data, and theoretical knowledge of the geospatial problem domain.

Desired additional skills and competencies:

Experience designing, building, testing, and deploying web mapping services;
Ability to present outputs using contemporary methods and communicate effectively with a range of audiences to transfer the knowledge gained;
